Registration of marriege - Embassy of Hungary in

Registration of marriege

Who needs to attend the appointment?

Husband and wife both need to attend the appointment.

What do I need to present upon my visit?

1. Original marriage certificate
Please be aware that Islamic marriages (religious ceremony only) are not acknowledged as valid in Hungary, only civil marriages.

For marriages solemnized in the UAE, you need to provide a hard copy of the Emirati marriage certificate with (1) UAE MOFA attestation and (2) our Embassy’s diplomatic legalization. First you need to obtain the UAE MOFA’s attestation stamp, after which you have to book an appointment for diplomatic legalization with our Embassy. This is needed to verify the document’s authenticity to the competent Hungarian authority. Please be informed that we cannot legalize UAE MOFA attestations that were stamped prior to July 2023.

After attestation is complete, you need to obtain a certified Hungarian translation from the Hungarian Office for Translation and Attestation Ltd. https://offi.hu/en To your marriage registration appointment you have to bring the already attested and translated UAE marriage certificate.

If you got married in a different country, you are advised to contact us at consulate.abu@mfa.gov.hu for guidance on attestation and translation requirements.

2. Proof of citizenship and identity
In case of Hungarian citizens: valid Hungarian passport or national ID card

In case of non-Hungarian citizens: for citizens of any EU member state, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland valid passport or national ID card, for citizens of all other countries, valid passport only
