Please do not let your passport expire! Kindly be aware that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon entering the United Arab Emirates. This does not concern you if you are a UAE resident with a valid residence visa. If you hold a valid residence visa, there is no minimum requirement on passport validity, you can enter the country until the last day of validity.
There are no emergency procedures for permanent passports abroad, only in Hungary (5 days, 3 days or 24 hours).

Who needs to attend the appointment?
Applicants above 12 must attend the appointment. Children below 12 don’t need to be present but a passport photo of them has to be provided. To avoid any inconvenience, please make sure to bring a passport photo of your child (white background, mouth closed, eyes open) since our machines are calibrated for adults
For a minor’s passport application both parents must attend the appointment.
If only one parent attends the appointment:
1. If both parents have custody, the parent not attending the appointment has to give written consent to the other parent. The authorization must be either fully handwritten (with a blue-ink pen!) and signed OR if not fully handwritten, must be signed in front of two witnesses. Passport copies have to be attached for both the parent giving the consent and the witnesses. The hard copy of the POA must be presented and can be accepted within 15 days from the date of signature.
2. If one parent has full custody, you need to provide proof of that by providing the relevant official documents (if the other parent lost custody, legally binding court order must be presented; if the other parent passed away, death certificate must be presented). If any of these documents were issued by a non-Hungarian authority, please contact us before your visit to seek guidance regarding attestation and translation requirements.
Declaration for Passport Application
What do I need to submit upon my visit?
For adults:
In most cases a valid passport (or expired within a year) and a Hungarian address card is enough. The address card is not mandatory.
If the passport has been expired for over a year, please present
- Your valid Hungarian national ID (or expired within a year)
o If you don’t have a Hungarian national ID, Hungarian driving license, Emirates ID or foreign passport
- In case you obtained Hungarian citizenship via simplified naturalization, please make sure to have your naturalization certificate with you (or at least a copy where the certificate number is visible)
- In case you request your passport to be issued under a new name that is different to your current passport, you need to provide proof of the name change with a Hungarian document (e.g. marriage certificate, certificate of name change)
For minors:
- In addition to the above, for children under 18, a Hungarian birth certificate and both parents’ valid ID must be presented. For non-Hungarian citzens the following IDs can be accepted: for citizens of any EU member state, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland passport or national ID, for all other countries passport only.
What should I do if I lost my passport/my passport was stolen/my passport is damaged?
- Book an appointment ASAP to report the loss/theft/damage of your passport but no later than 3 days from the time you realized what happened.
- In case of loss or theft, report it to the police immediately and bring the police report to your appointment! https://u.ae/en/information-and-services/visa-and-emirates-id/lost-your-passport-with-uae-residence-visa-on-it/lost-your-passport-in-the-uae

Something’s missing – related case types
Enrolment into the Hungarian Personal Data and Address Register:
If an applicant hasn’t been enrolled into the Hungarian Personal Data and Address Register, we need to initiate the enrolment ex officio. If you can verify your Hungarian citizenship and you have no unregistered registry events (birth, marriage, divorce), this will be completed within 2-3 months and will not impact the issuance of your passport.
Registration of birth:
If your child doesn’t have a Hungarian birth certificate because their birth hasn’t been registered yet, you need to have their birth registered at your earliest convenience which is a legal obligation for Hungarian citizens. For children under 6, it is possible to issue a passport without having to wait for the birth registration to be complete (2-3 weeks) but for children above 6, a passport can only be issued after the birth registration is complete (2-4 months).
Verification of citizenship:
If you are unable to prove your Hungarian citizenship with documents and you haven’t been enrolled in the Hungarian Personal Data and Address Register, your citizenship needs to be verified before your passport could be issued. This could take up to 6-12 months.
